Hawk and son, er… dead bird
I’ll add to this soon… but just wanted to say how I was opening the blinds in my living room on this day and looked out the window to see a radiant hawk picking apart an unfortunate dove underneath my backyard’s bird-feeder. As I looked up, I noticed a large shape in a lighter colored circle - compared to the grass ( and weeds ) - and I at first took it to be a yellowish cat.
Instead, the shape was a sleek hawk, painted a glowing yellow and orange from the morning sun. It noticed the movement in the window, so I carefully snapped a few photos from a hiding spot.
I’ve seen a hawk in my neighborhood and backyard before, but never enjoying a morning meal. The hawk pulled off some more bright-red flesh, then disappeared… taking the carcass with it. Days have passed and the circle of feathered carnage still remains. It’s as if the hawk tore all the poor dove’s feather’s off to get to the bare bird - and there is not even one spec of blood or discarded remains to be found.
I’ve noticed other dead birds and squirrels at times… but figured they were from cat attacks or something else ( mostly since one cat will kill birds, while the other cat kills lizards and geckos ). Now I’ll reconsider my cats’ killing aptitude and be on the lookout for larger predator fare.
I’ve always liked hawks…
